January wrap-up

without comments

January is coming to an end and I’m anxiously awaiting my departure for Florida in just over two weeks.  Nothing much has changed since last weeks blog.  I’m still working out hard, taking yoga, and working hard on my mental approach for the year.

I’ve been reading a book that I was suggested through a fellow Can Tour player’s blog.  The book is called Talent is Overrated.

It focuses on deliberate practice, which has been really challenging and eye opening.  In the few days that I’ve been reading it, it has directly affected my gym sessions and my range/putting sessions this week.  I’m excited to see how this develops when I get to Florida and with my practice over the season.

The book has so many great nuggets of information that is sticking to my ribs.  It’s amazing.  I’m almost done it, but do expect to re-read it a few more times this year to catch anything I might have missed.

Things are falling into place with my trip to Florida and it’s very exciting.  I’ll be doing it alone and making a few stops along the way to see some cities along the eastern part of the US.  I’m most excited to see Nashville.  There’s something about that city that excites me from what I’ve gathered, and I can’t wait to see it first hand come February.

Until next entry…

Cold but still kicking

without comments

It’s been some time since my last entry.  I have tried to post some mobile entries form my iPhone, but the app I’m using keeps losing the draft once its finished.

I’m still home in Ottawa working as hard as my situation will allow me.  I’m spending a lot of time in the gym, lots of time hitting balls indoors, working very hard with my sports psychologist Adam, and the latest addition to my regime has been yoga classes!  The yoga has been great at working my mind, body, and breathe; I’m absolutely loving it

All and all I’m in a great place right now.  In spite of the reality of being in cold Canada without status on any tour, I feel more confident and motivated to play golf than I ever have before.

I intend to leave for Florida mid February and give myself a month of on course preparation for Q School on March 16th.  I’m working towards this event much like I worked towards Q School in the fall of 2007.  I’m optimistic that I will be able to do the same thing I did in 2007.

Some side notes:

A book that has really gotten me going in the right direction is Malcolm Gladwell’s latest effort: “Outliers”.  I read it over the holidays and it is still sticking to my ribs late into January.  The book is all about how success is achieved and it has put a great fire under my butt to make great strides in 2009.  I highly recommend you check it out for yourself!

I’m now on twitter!  Twitter is a social networking website that is a constant update on what I’m doing day to day.  I have it linked on my website’s profile page, but you can also follow me along at twitter.com/andrewjensen to see what I’m up to all day long as I keep it current from my iPhone.  Think of it as mini blog’s I write all day long.
